To protect and preserve our national and cultural heritage for educational
encouragement. It also aims in stimulating public interest, love and
appreciation of the heritage with the provision of efficient and quality
services.

Darussalam. To protect and conserve this cultural and natural

1.
Protection and Conservation
-
To protect and preserve national and cultural
heritage such as archaeological sites, monuments, historical and
cultural artifacts, archival documents and natural history - fauna and
flora for research and references.

Produce reproductions of cultural artifacts and
historical objects.

to provide security system in galleries, stores and
laboratories for effective protection and conservation of cultural and
natural heritage.

To protect and disseminate knowledge of the
existing of local handicrafts through programmes and activities
arranged by Brunei Handicrafts and Training Centre.
2.
Research
-
To conduct and encourage
research in the field of archaeology, ethnography, history and natural
history and disseminate the knowledge of Brunei Darussalam's rich
cultural and natural heritage through exhibits, publications and
public lectures.

Collaborate with
researchers from abroad or from other government departments fo
further diversify and enrich Museum research efforts.

Maintain reference
material in the form of archival and library holdings and collection
of specimens to facilitate research.
3.
Dissemination Knowledge through Education Services
-
Provide lectures and
briefings on Museum research activities including galleries for
official visits.

Audio visual shows on
educational programmes can be provided on request to students and
visitors.

Provide reading
materials, briefings on museums, exhibitions and Brunei Museums
collection.

Provide loan facilities
on natural history specimens, archaeological, ethnographical and
historical artifacts to educational institutions, professional bodies
and individuals upon approval.
3. Collection
-
Purchase
Purchase authenticated materials, records, cultural artifacts and
historical objects relating to Brunei Darussalam local and abroad.

Gift/Exchange/Loan
Accepting materials in the form of books, artifacts and specimens as
gifts, exchanges or loans from individual, public, professional bodies
or academics

Excavation
Acquire archaeological materials, cultural artifacts and historical
objects through excavation
-
Expedition
Acquire archaeological, historical and cultural artifacts and natural
history such as fauna and floral specimens through expedition done by
this department or cooperation with other institution local or abroad
and individual.
3. Exhibition
-
Organise special
exhibition at least 4 times every year.

Encourage other
government departments or individual to exhibit their collections
relating to museums field.

Exchange programmes
exhibition with other foreign institutions relating to historical,
cultural and natural heritage
