WHITE-COLLARED
FRUIT BAT
(Megaerops wetmorei)
Rare and unique collection. The
only living species ever found in the world recorded at Tasek
Merimbun, Tutong District. Their ecology and habitat have not been
studied comprehensively but two pairs of its specimen were kept at the
Brunei Museum collection which are collected during a research study of
fauna and flora carried out at Tasek Merimbun in 1983-1984.
Its fur is pale brown, lower back darker.
Large white tufts on side of neck extending onto back to form broken
collar. Interfemoral membrane narrow and sparsely covered with
hairs an it tail very short or lacking. Muzzle cute, short and thick
with one pair of lower incisors. Rostrum of skull less upturned
than in the Tailless Fruit Bat, Megaerops ecuadatus.
