This exhibition is based on the competition organized by Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) in 2000 as a way to initiate a network of exchange between arts schools and art students from Asia and Europe.

Young artists from 52 European and Asian arts schools were invited to take parts in this competition.  The entries were selected first at a national level and second, by an Asia-Europe jury composed of Mrs. de Menonville Corinne (France; Consultant, Vietnamese Painting); Mr. Ong Kim Seng (Singapore; Painter, President of the Watercolour Society); Prof. Dr Schneckenburger Manfred (Germany; Rector, Academy of Fine Arts, Munster); Mr. Tassananchalee Karnol (Thailand; National Artists in Visual Arts, Painting and Mixed Media); Prof. Zhong han (China; Deputy Director Artistic Committee of Painting (oil), Artists Association of China).

The 25 finalists were awarded with prizes during a ceremony held in Seoul Arts Centre on 18 October 2000, as a cultural event linked to the Third Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held in Seoul, Korea on 20-21 October 2000.

After Korea, the exhibition toured to Vietnam (Hanoi Fine Arts University), Thailand (Thailand Cultural Centre), Philippines (Philippine Cultural Centre), China (Shanghai Deke Erh Art Centre), Indonesia (Bandung Institute of Technology), Singapore (Singapore Art Museum) and Malaysia (Malaysia Art and Design Centre).
